- 1st SAF Workshop was formed at Kallang Camp for repair and maintenance of
B vehicle.
1969 - The VRB is now solely in charge in repairing B vehicle only as the Armoured Vehicle Repair Base (AVRB) was formed for maintenance and repair of A vehicle.
1976,
1977, 1978 - The Best Logistics Unit was conferred upon OMB/GSMB/GSMG
for three successive years since 1976. CO LTC Fong Thian Chee, received the
trophy from Deputy Prime Minister & Defense Minister, Dr Goh Keng Swee
during the SAF display at Changi.

1st GSMB CO from 3 JAN 78 to 31 DEC 80
1978 - OMB was reorganised. An Overall Service Support Concept (OSSC) was formulated and the maintenance asset of GS level and DS level were also reorganised. This led to the establishment of the General Support Maintenance Battalion(GSMB) and 3 x Direct Support Maintenance (DSMB) in order to cope with the increase equipment maintenance workload for the general support and direct support level.

2nd GSMB CO from 1 JAN 81 to 2 JAN 84
1981
- Best Logistics unit- GSMB/GSMG had again emerged to be the best Logistics
Unit in 80/81 workyear. CO, LTC Loh Kum Kin (left), received the trophy from
Defense Minister Mr Howe Yoon Chong during SAF display at West Coast Park.
1982
- GSMB/GSMG had indeed lived up to it expectations! Again the Best Logistics
Unit was awarded to the unit in 1982. CO GSMB LTC Loh Kum Kin received the
trophy from Defence Minister Mr Goh Chock Tong in the Istana.
1978 - Restucturing of GSMB - The SAF decided to commercialise base level repair to MINDEF approved civilian maintenance companies like CIS, ODE, SAE and SEEL in accordance with the OSSC concept. OMB was dissolved and the following coy joined GSMB. - A Coy (Armoured Vehicle Workshop), B Coy (B vehicle Workshop), C Coy ( Gun Workshop), D Coy ( Weapon and Optical Workshop), E Coy ( Armoured Engineer Workshop), F Coy (FATA Workshop)
The role of GSMB was defined as providing general support level of maintenance, technical assistance, spare parts supply, recovery and evacuation assistance to the SAF units during peacetime and during operation. ESMB was dissolved and the Communication and Electronic Workshop joined GSMB to be name G Coy.

3rd GSMB CO from 3 JAN 84 to 6 JUL 86
1984 - The move from the tattered GSMB warehouse to the new building that presently houses Techstore started somewhere in July 1984.
1985 - The Armoured vehicle workshop at A Coy (1GSMC) was renovated and fully upgraded with equipment e.g. overhead cranes, aircon turret hydraulic room and MII3 injector room.
1985
- The B Vehicle Inspection Centre (VIC) at BLK 107 was completed.
1985 -
The trial computerisation of Techstore ICC for Mercedes Benz section was
successful. The whole computerisation project to cover thee remaining section
was finally completed in 1985 and Techstore ICC was officially declared open
on 12 August by ACGS LOG LTC Pek Beng Choon .

1985 - GSMB was the first SAF unit to receive the Gold Award for community chest on 16/10/85 from President Wee Kim Wee to CO GSMB, MAJ Chan Jwee Kah
1987
- 'A' Vehicle Test Track was constructed at $500,000 located beside the
entrance of the Ayer Rajah Camp.
1988 - GSMB was reorganised into 7 maintenance Companies which include ‘A’ Coy, ‘B’ Coy, ‘GM Coy, Armt Coy, ETM Coy E&O Coy and EEM Coy. and 2 support Companies namely HQ Coy and Tech Support Coy to cope up with the reduced manpower.

G4 ARMY started LMIS(Logistic Management Information System) which incorporate
EMMIS,SMIS, BCMIS and OLMIS which GSMB is affected.

8th GSMB CO from 10 DEC 94 to 21 DEC 96

Oct 1994 - SAF GSMB was awarded ISO 9002 Certification by SISIR after
a year of effort in refining the units work processes. MS Ho Ching, Chairperson
of SISIR presented the certificate to BG Lim Neo Chian COA who the presented
to CO GSMB MAJ Billy YAP.
1996 - S4 Br ISO Certification by SISIR
1997 - S1 Br ISO 9002 certification by SISIR (Sep 97)
1994
- With the reorganisation of ALCOM and G4 ARMY, HQ maintenance became
HQ Maintenance and Engineering Support (HQ MES) and a full-fledged
SSSO HQ was formed. GSMB was streamlined into 6 Maintenance Companies and
2 Support Companies.
20th April 1994 - GSMB launches Service Excellence Program
1996,
1997 - GSMB achieved the prestigious Winner of Service Excellence Award.
